About
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. Based in Manchester, NH, the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity designs accessible, innovative programs that motivate young people to pursue education and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and math, while building self-confidence, knowledge, and life skills.
FIRST is More Than Robots. FIRST participation is proven to encourage students to pursue education and careers in STEM-related fields, inspire them to become leaders and innovators, and enhance their 21st century work-life skills.
History
San Jose formed a robotics team during the 2015-2016 school year. Originally, it was composed of two teams. During the 2016-2017 school year, the team became one joint team of middle and high school team members. This was the year they were re-branded as the San Jose Storm Troopers.
At Our School
The Storm Troopers are more than a robotics team, we\'re a family. We have an amazing mentor program where high schoolers train middle schoolers. We are a very thrifty team, while using bare-bone materials through the years. We strive to help other teams, with members talking to other teams and we are very excited.
To join our team, parents will need to sign a permission form and pay $25 club dues for the year, which includes the purchase of a club T-shirt. Also, students must maintain a 2.5 or better GPA, checked on progress reports and report cards. If below a 2.5, the student will have until the next progress report or report card to bring it up.If at any time a student has an F in a class, the student will be suspended from robotics until the teacher of that class advises that the student has brought the grade up.
